MONROE COUNTY, Mich. - A Detroit woman is reported dead after an overnight crash involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles on Interstate 75 in Monroe County, the Michigan State Police First District reported

The accident, which happened at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, resulted in all southbound lanes of I-75 closed for hours near the Ohio-Michigan state line.

When troopers from the Monroe post arrived, they found a 2023 Hyundai Kona stopped against the median barrier. The driver, a 56-year-old woman from Detroit, was unresponsive, and pulled from the vehicle. "Lifesaving efforts were started and turned over to EMS upon their arrival," troopers reported.

She was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, and pronounced dead at the hospital, the report said.

The passenger, a 43-year-old man from Detroit, was found to have minor injuries; he also was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment.

Occupants of the other vehicles were not injured.

Initial investigation showed the driver of the Hyundai was southbound on I-75 near Gaynier Road in Erie Township when that vehicle struck the back of a trailer pulled by a 2022 Volvo semi truck. This area is about five miles south of Monroe.

The impact caused the Hyundai driver to lose control and collide with a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 33-year-old man from Warren. There were three passengers in the minivan.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported all southbound lanes of I-75 were closed at South Otter Creek Road, exit 9, as a result of the crash ahead on the freeway.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Michigan Department of Transportation and Monroe Community Ambulance.

The investigation is continuing.
