A K9 officer with the Adams County Sheriff's Office helped capture a suspect wanted in connection with holding a hostage after a pursuit in Colorado. Late Monday night, Commerce City police were notified about a protection order violation in the Belle Creek area.

When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, later identified as Jason Pacheco, 43, had been holding the hostage inside a residence. According to officers, when they tried to make contact with the Pacheco after they located him inside the suspect vehicle near the residence, he drove away at a high rate of speed.

Officers said they pursued Pacheco into Denver, and that's when the Colorado State Patrol used the grappler device to wrap the rear tire of his vehicle. That ended the pursuit near 58th and I-25.

During the pursuit, some traffic on I-25 was stopped.

Pacheco tried to run away and was captured by an Adams County Sheriff's K9 officer. He was taken into custody by the Commerce City Police Department.

Pacheco is facing nearly a dozen charges, including aggravated felony menacing with a weapon, aggravated second-degree assault, false imprisonment, vehicular eluding and resisting arrest.
