CHICAGO (CBS) — A woman was charged after stabbing two people and crashing a stolen car Thursday in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood.

Vanessa Delgado, 21, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon, one count of vehicular hijacking, and two counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

At her first court appearance on Saturday, Cook County prosecutors said Delgado approached a 41-year-old woman in the 5100 block of South Rutherford Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, and asked for help before trying to steal her car.

When Delgado realized the key fob wasn't inside, she attacked the woman, stabbed her, and stole her car.

Delgado didn't make it more than a few blocks before she crashed into several parked cars. Minutes later, she approached another victim, a 30-year-old man trying to put his child in his car to take him to daycare. Prosecutors said Delgado stabbed him in his side while he was still holding his son.

The victim was able to fight back, and ended up pinning Delgado down until first responders and police arrived.

Both victims were taken to the hospital; the woman was listed in critical condition, while the man was in good condition.

Police said Delgado had minor injuries from the crash, and was also taken to the hospital.

In court, a police officer on her case said she's been on a medical hold at Holy Cross Hospital since she was arrested at the scene.

It was unclear how long Delgado would remain in the hospital, but a judge ordered she remain in custody at least until a detention hearing on Tuesday.
