CHICAGO (CBS) — Hotter, more humid weather is returning to the Chicago area after a comfortable start to the week.

Clouds increase overnight, with a few light rain showers possible as a weak storm clips north of our area. Expect another slight chance of rain on Wednesday, with noticeably warmer temperatures well into the 80s.

A Weather Alert is in effect late Thursday as a stronger storm and cold front enter the area, clashing with plentiful heat and humidity in place.

Some storms during the afternoon and evening may contain hail and wind damage, although widespread severe weather is not currently expected.

Following a break in the heat Friday and Saturday, high temperatures soar into the 90s, starting Father's Day.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Low: 64

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain. High: 88

Thursday: Scattered late-day thunderstorms, some severe. High: 89
