Chicago Police warn of burglaries targeting businesses on North, Northwest sides

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police on Thursday issued an alert about a rash of smash-and-grab burglaries at businesses on the city's North and Northwest sides.

In each incident, a burglar has broken the front window or glass door of a business and stormed inside, taking money from cash registers.

The burglaries happened at the following times and locations:

  • Thursday, Jan. 16, 3:26 a.m., in the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road, Portage Park.
  • Friday, Jan. 17, 4:10 a.m., in the 2500 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Lincoln Park.
  • Friday, Jan. 17, 4:14 a.m., in the 2600 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Lincoln Park.
  • Friday, Jan. 17, 5:40 a.m., in the 2400 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Lincoln Park.
  • Between 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, and 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the 2800 block of North Halsted Street, East Lakeview.
  • Between 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, and 5:33 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the 2800 block of North Sheffield Avenue, Lakeview.
  • Saturday, Jan. 18, at 5:45 a.m., between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., and 5:49 a.m. at three different businesses in the 2900 block of North Broadway, East Lakeview.
  • Between 11:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, and 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, and between 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, and 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at two different businesses in the 4300 block of North Elston Avenue, Irving Park.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 21, 4:34 a.m., in the 4000 block of North Elston Avenue, Irving Park.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 21, 4:57 a.m., in the 3600 block of West Irving Park Road, Irving Park.

Police said the burglar is one man wearing  black hat, black gloves, a mask, dark clothing, and a black backpack.
