1 charged after Chicago South Side building evacuated over concerns of suspicious materials
CHICAGO (CBS) — A person is facing misdemeanor charges after a suspicious package caused a South Side apartment building to be evacuated Monday morning.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m. Monday at the building located at 533 E. 33rd Pl. in Bronzeville.
Officers responded to the scene after a woman called 911 to report suspicious materials found inside.
The bomb squad arrived to clear the scene as a precaution. The materials were later deemed harmless and posed no threat. No injuries were reported. Residents were allowed to return to the building around 1:30 p.m.
Police said one person was taken into custody at the scene.
Kameron Younger, 37, was charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card. He was released from custody and due to make his first court appearance on Jan. 27.
