Hopkinton Girl's Boston Marathon Inspired Dish Wins White House Recipe Challenge
HOPKINTON (CBS) -- A Hopkinton girl is headed to the White House after winning the First Lady's national recipe challenge with her Boston Marathon inspired dish.
Abby Newman, 10, calls her dish, "Fit to Run Boston Marathon Cod-Potato Cake." Newman submitted the recipe for the "Healthy Lunchtime Challenge," a part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative
"We live at the start of the Boston Marathon. Our school and community become one soul during Marathon season as we are a runners' town," Newman said in a public statement. "We created a healthy and balanced dish packed with protein and fresh ingredients that will bring the marathon spirit to the schools during lunch time."
One winner was picked from each state. Newman and the other winners will join the First Lady on July 14 for a healthy lunch which will feature a selection of the winning recipes. They will then visit the White House Kitchen Garden.
