Disappointed travelers return to Boston from snowy Florida
BOSTON - Imagine booking a trip to Florida thinking you were escaping the cold, only to arrive to near freezing temperatures. That was a reality for passengers arriving home Wednesday from Orlando at Logan Airport.
Jackie Vanaria planned a family vacation to Disney World back in September. She had heard that January was a great time to escape the cold in Florida. The last thing she expected was for a winter storm to hit the Gulf Coast.
"It was cold and rainy the whole time, so we will never be going back down in January again," said Jackie.
She said park hopping with the kids was a little less enjoyable in the bitter weather and rain.
Golf plans canceled
Others getting back into town had a similar experience. Rob Del Grecco brought his golf clubs along, hoping to get a few rounds in while in the Sunshine State, but Mother Nature had other plans.
"I thought I would bookend the trip, playing one at the beginning and one at the end, but I ended up having to change my flight," Rob said. "It just didn't make any sense it was raining all day in Orlando today as well too."
Travelers said to make matters worse, they were arriving to freezing temperatures and snow in Boston.
The winter storm tore through much of the south, shattering snow records in Florida and Alabama. Pensacola, Florida reported over seven inches of snow, beating the record of two inches from back in 1954.
