Week 17 NFL Injury Report Brought To You By Bruce Hagen
Well I hope you all had a great holiday this week (I know I did!). So we're here, the final week of the NFL regular season. Yet, the injuries are still a plenty around the league. So, let's take a look at those injuries.
How about we start first with Falcons safety William Moore missing his fourth straight game with a hamstring issue? That is the case indeed, as Mike Smith told reporters on Wednesday that Moore has not been cleared to play by the doctors and he fully expects him to miss the Buccaneers game.
We stay with the Falcons and mention that Roddy White has missed the past couple of days with the re-occurring knee injury that has bothered him the last couple weeks. Obviously it did not bother him last week, during his two touchdown performance against the Lions. If you'll remember, he missed all practices the week leading up to the Giants game. So chances are that Roddy plays on Sunday, even though the game is pretty much meaningless.
Elsewhere In The NFL:
Michael Vick makes his return to the starting quarterback role in the Eagles season finale against the Giants, after missing the last six games with a concussion. That is because rookie QB Nick Foles broke his hand in Philadelphia's loss to the Redskins.
The Texans Arian Foster left the team's disappointing home loss to the Vikings early with an irregular heartbeat. That being said, the running back from the start told reporters that he was not worried about the issue at all. On Tuesday Foster tweeted as much to his followers and that thought was followed up by both words/actions of Gary Kubiak on Wednesday. He had the Pro Bowl running back go through full practice and anticipates him to play in their final regular season test against the Colts.
Ray Lewis will be active 53-man roaster this weekend for the Ravens final regular season game against the Bengals, yet he will not be active coming back from the torn triceps that sidelined him more than half of the season. The only way the linebacker can play in the playoffs, is to be added to the active roster for this Week 17 game. Although likely, there is still nothing definite that Lewis can be on the field for the AFC North champion's first playoff game.
According to Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune, Brian Urlacher tried to test out his hamstring last weekend when he was spotted outside of Arizona's University of Phoenix Stadium before the Bears win over the Cardinals. This is in his effort to get on the field for the Bears final regular season game against the Lions. This is a game that Chicago needs to win in order to get into the playoffs. Lovie Smith told reporters on Monday that a chance still remains that number 54 could be on the field for the finale.
More NFL Injury Notes:
Rob Gronkowski continues to practice for the Patriots, coming back from a broken forearm suffered against the Colts. Bill Belichick still says that Gronk is not ready yet and he has not been cleared by the doctors.
Greg McIllroy's starting career for the Jets is for now halted at just one game, after suffering a concussion last week against the Chargers. So, the Jets will go back to Mark Sanchez at starting QB.
Mario Manningham won't be making any Super Bowl saving catches for the 49ers this postseason, after tearing his ACL on Sunday night against the Seahawks. However, some good news could be coming San Francisco's way for their final game against the Cardinals. As Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that tight end Vernon Davis should be available for that game. Davis left Sunday night's loss with a concussion.
Well, that this week's injury report. I would also like to wish you all a very safe and happy new year. Also, stay tuned to SportsRadio 92-9 The Game for more BIG things coming your way!
