VIDEO: Youth Football Taking It Too Far?

By Rob Hamilton / 92-9 The Game / CBS Atlanta

In San Antonio, Texas youth football is played on an entirely different level. According to a new promo (see below) just released for "Friday Night Tykes", a new reality show debuting on Esquire Network.

We sat here watching this promo over and over and opinions are mixed on it around the station. Some of our former NFL All-Pros and some current parents of small children find nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Some of both groups also find it deplorable.

In this office you will find most of the staff does not like the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality and thinks that indeed we have become "weak" as a society. But is this the answer? Are concussions by the age of 10 the answer? Did you see some of the hits these kids were putting on each other? Helmet to helmet. Hits that are not even legal in today's game.

I have a 7 month old son. I will do some serious evaluating of any football program that he might decide he wants to participate in before he pads up.

"You have the opportunity, today, to rip their freakin' head off, and let them bleed," is how the show, Friday Night Tykes, an obvious spin-off of the wildly popular Texas high school drama that aired on NBC is being promoted.

Seriously?
