After watching episode 2, I pulled on my Nancy Drew pants and did some sleuthing for a couple songs that popped out in "The Vampire Diaries." After a quick search, I finally have some answers, and I was shocked to find out that The Fray was one of them.
"Ungodly Hour" by The Fray -- Am I an avid Fray listener? No, but this song worked perfectly at the end of episode 2. So much so that I was haunted by the melody and determined to figure out the source. The song played when the Mystic Falls teenagers (and vampires) lit paper lanterns in honor of their loved ones who weren't with them anymore. The music also softened as Damon (Ian Somerhalder) recited a heartfelt speech at Alaric's grave site. If you've seen "Arrow's" second episode, then you know that talking to headstones seems to be a popular thing to do.
"Fear and Loathing" by Marina and the Diamonds -- You can hear this song when Elena (Nina Dobrev) sucks on Damon's wrist -- in a completely platonic way; get your mind out of the gutter! She's in need of non-animal blood, and Damon is quick to offer his own supply. Really, the scene is sexy when it should be gross, which is why so many fans ship Delena. Undeniable chemistry for sure. Also, the music plays over another makeout scene. Only this is actually a real one between Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino). Like the tune? Or is your repeat button stuck on "Ungodly Hour?"
Watch all new episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" on Thursdays at 8 pm.
