The Sports Kings: Hawks Making Moves...

The two deals hampering our local professional basketball team are no more…

The Hometown Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a trade that would send All-Star guard Joe Johnson from Atlanta to Brooklyn.

The Nets will send guards Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and DeShawn Stevenson and forwards Jordan Williams and Johan Petro to the Hawks, along with a lottery protected draft pick Brooklyn received from Houston.

The trade cannot become official until Stevenson signs as a free agent with Brooklyn. Free agents cannot be signed until July 11.

The Hawks also have agreed to deal forward Marvin Williams to the Utah Jazz for point guard Devin Harris, according to Utah CEO Greg Miller.

So what's next for the Hawks?

Another subpar season?

I'll be the first to say I've beat up on Joe & Marvin religiously on our radio show but I'm no dummy, I remember how bad the Hawks were from 1999-2006 and I credit the signing of Joe Johnson as probably the main reason things turned around for Atlanta. He's without a doubt one the best shooting guards in the league and respected amongst his peers, he's just not the most vocal guy and that is probably his worst attribute.

So here we are…

Danny Ferry has answered the prayers of many Hawks fans by moving Joe and the contract but let me warn you that while there maybe a silver lining right around the corner this team will have to make a step backwards before they can continue the journey of pressing forward.

Be prepared Hawks' fans…
