Teen Girl Captain Of Her Football Team

GROVETOWN, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) -- A teenage girl is the captain of her middle school football team.

WJBF-TV reports 13-year-old Rachel Eaves is one of six captains for the Columbia Middle School Raiders.

"A lot of people, they know who I am, and I'll just go out somewhere and they're like, 'Oh, you're Rachel,'" she said.

Brian Atkins, the team's head coach, said that Rachel is a true leader.

"She is the dog that chews everybody up if they're not doing the right thing," he told WJBF.

He continued, "Last year when she was playing, it was like, 'Oh, there's a girl that's playing football. All the kids noticed her and knew who she was. Well, now it's more like she's a football player, and she just happens to be a girl."

Rachel's stepfather believes she has become a "much more mature player."

"She understands the system a lot better. She understands her role when she's playing linebacker, or as a defensive captain. She understands her role as a blocker," Travis Burchett told WBJF.

Rachel's middle school team concluded their season last week. She doesn't know if she will continue playing in high school, but her coaches believe she can.
