Ballerina Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is injured in a freak accident. Her dancing career is over, and she is forced to join the "Sparrow School,' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. Her first mission is to seduce an American CIA agent (Joel Edgerton). When the mission starts to unravel, it just might threaten the security of both countries. Red Sparrow Website
What to Watch For: The film is based on a book series by retired CIA operative Jason Matthews.
Word on the Street: Jennifer Lawrence got into a real bar fight while filming the movie in Budapest.
My Take: This is the fourth time Lawrence has worked with director Francis Lawrence. They worked together on all three Hunger Game films.
The film opens nationwide on Friday.
Death Wish (2018) R
Dr, Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is used to seeing the day to day violence that goes on in the city as he works in the ER. When his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home, Paul decides to take matters into his own hands and get revenge. Death Wish Website
What to Watch For: The film is loosely based on the 1974 Death Wish film starring Charles Bronson.
Word on the Street: Instead of being set in New York City (like the original film), the film is set in Chicago.
My Take: This is the first film directed by Eli Roth that isn't a horror film.
The film opens nationwide on Friday.
Nostalgia (2018) R
A mosaic of stories about love and loss, Nostalgia explores our relationships to the objects, artifacts, and memories that shape our lives. Nostalgia Website
What to Watch For: The outstanding cast includes Jon Hamm, Ellen Burstyn, Catherine Keener, Bruce Dern and Amber Tamblyn.
Word on the Street: The film is directed by Mark Pellington, who also directed Arlington Road (1999) and The Mothman Prophecies (2002).
My Take: I will see anything that Amber Tamblyn is in.
The film opens Friday in Atlanta area theatres.
The Lullaby (2018)
Returning to her hometown, Chloe (Reine Swart) tries to come to terms with being a new mom. The incessant crying of her baby, the growing sense of guilt and paranoia sends Chloe into a dark depression. Is her paranoia warranted? Only time will tell. The Lullaby Info
What to Watch For: The film was shot in South Africa.
Word on the Street: Reine Swart is known for her roles in Die Pro (2015) and Detour (2017).
My Take: I am always up for a horror film.

The Vanishing of Sidney Hall (2017) R
After publishing a bestselling novel based on the death of one of his high school classmates, the controversial writer Sidney Hall (Logan Lerman) finds himself catapulted to unexpected fame and renown. His relationship with his girlfriend (Elle Fanning) begins to fall apart as the dark consequences of the book intrude on their life together, and he disappears without a trace. Nearly a decade later, an enigmatic detective searches for the missing author, whose books are connected to a string of mysterious arsons. The Vanishing of Sidney Hall Facebook Page
What to Watch For: The excellent cast includes Michelle Monaghan, Elle Fanning, Logan Lerman, Kyle Chandler, and Nathan Lane.
