"Oblivion" (2013)

After decades of war with an Alien race, most of Earth has been destroyed. Jack (Tom Cruise) is one of the last few humans stationed on the planet. His job is to repair drones on the surface, kill any aliens still remaining and extract Earth's few remaining resources. But Jack finds a crashed spaceship, a spaceship that will change his life. What to Watch For: This will be Tom Cruise's only film release in 2013.

Word on the Street: The film was originally a Disney production, but it was moved to Universal when co-writer/director Joseph Kosinski convinced Disney that he could not produce a kid-friendly film with the script that he had written.

My Take: I am interested to see what lead actress Olga Kurylenko can do with the part after she beat out other heavy hitters for the part, including Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling, Noomi Rapace and Jessica Chastain.

"Disconnect" (2013)

This film explores the interconnected world of the internet and it's far reaching perils. A husband and wife (Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton) have their identities stolen, a widowed father (Frank Grillo) has no idea what his son is doing on-line, a reporter (Andrea Riseborough) is trying to do a story on the exploitation of young men on the internet and a married couple (Jason Bateman, Hope Davis) can't connect with their son whose whole world is wrapped up with music and the internet. What to Watch For: This is the first feature film for director Henry Alex Rubin who did the 2005 Oscar nominated documentary "Murderball."

Word on the Street: The film is being described as the "Crash" of the digital age.

My Take: The studio must be a little worried that film-goers will mistake this film for a comedy (which it is not) due to Jason Bateman's other 2013 film, "Identity Thief," which also happened to deal with identities being stolen over the internet.

"The Angel's Share" (2013)

Robbie (Paul Brannigan) has led a life of crime but now that he is a dad, he is determined to turn his life around and provide for his son. When he is sentenced to community service, he and his fellow service members are about to encounter something that will change their lives. The Angel's Share Website

What to Watch For: This comedy won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes last year.

Word on the Street: The star of the film, Paul Brannigan, is getting great reviews in his first feature film.

My Take: This is the type of film that, due to word of mouth, could be a big hit on the art-house circuit.

If you can't go to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.
