What to Watch For:  The cast includes Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Britt Robertson, Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant and Sarah Chalke.

Word on the Street:  The film was shot in and around Atlanta, GA.

My Take:  It's fun to watch Britt Robertson's career continue to rise.

 

"Keanu"  (2016)

When Rell's (Jordan Peele) beloved pet kitten, Keanu, is stolen,  he and his cousin (Keegan-Michael Key) are out to find who did it and make them give the kitten back.  They may have bitten off more than they bargained for. "Keanu" Website

What to Watch For:  Seven cats were used in the film, and Keegan-Michael Key had to take medication to work on the film because he has a cat allergy.

Word on the Street:  Will Forte is being singled out by critics for his role as a drug dealer.

My Take:  Surely Keanu Reeves makes some sort of appearance in the film.

 

"Ratchet & Clank"  (2016)

The galaxy has become under attack, and it's up to Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor), a mechanic who dreams of being a hero, and his robot friend, Clank (David Kaye) to come to the rescue. "Ratchet & Clank" Website

What to Watch For:  The film is based on the popular gaming series.

Word on the Street:  The voice cast includes Rosario Dawson, Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, and Sylvester Stallone.

My Take:  I think it's interesting that the two voice actors for Ratchet and Clank in the games are also the voice actors in the film.

 

"Green Room"  (2016)

After witnessing a murder, a punk rock band is made to defend themselves against a group of skinheads. "Green Room" Website

What to Watch For:  Patrick Stewart plays Darcy Banker, the leader of a violent white supremacist group.

Word on the Street:  The film has been winning awards on the Festival circuit, including the Audience Award at the 2015 Festival du Nouveau Cinema.

My Take: Writer/director Jeremy Saulnier also brought us one of my favorite films of the past five years,  "Blue Ruin" (2013).

 

"Sing Street"  (2016)

A boy (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), growing up in Dublin in the 1980's, starts a band to escape his broken family life and impress a girl (Lucy Boynton) he has a crush on. "Sing Street" Facebook Page

What to Watch For: The film was shot on location in Dublin, Ireland.

Word on the Street:  The film was the talk of this year's SXSW Film Festival and was nominated for three awards at the 2016 Irish Film and Television Awards.

My Take: The soundtrack for the film is brilliant, including songs by Duran Duran, The Clash, The Cure and Spandau Ballet.

 

"Papa Hemingway in Cuba"  (2016)

What to Watch For:  The screenwriter, Denne Bart Petitclerc, wrote the film in 2006 and had started production of the film when he died.

Word on the Street:  This is the first Hollywood feature film shot in Cuba in 45 years.

My Take:  Hemingway is one of my favorite authors, so you know I will see this film.

 

"Rio, I Love You"  (2016)

The film is a collection of short movies all set in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. "Rio, I Love You" Website

What to Watch For: This is the third film in the "Cities of Love" franchise.

Word on the Street:  Filmmakers from Brazil, Lebanon, Italy, South Korea, Mexico and  Australia worked on the film.

My Take:  I enjoyed the 2009 film New York, "I Love You."

 

If you can't make it to the theatre this weekend, then stay at home and watch movies on Atlanta's CW.

"The Principal"  (1987)   After a hot-tempered teacher (James Belushi) beats up a man. his punishment is to become the principal of the most crime-ridden school in the district.

"Just My Luck"  (2006) Two lives collide when a fortunate girl (Lindsay Lohan) who has everything inherits the misfortune of a sweet guy (Chris Pine), and together they reconstruct their luck and find love.
