Preview This! Monsters University

Opening this week at a theatre near you:

"Monsters University" (2013)

Monsters University
Souce: Disney/Pixar

We get to see how the friendship began with Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) when they meet up at Monsters University. The guys weren't always best friends, in fact, when they first met, they couldn't stand each other. Monsters University Website

What to Watch For: Co-screenwriter Robert Baird also worked on "Cars" (2006) and the original "Monster, Inc." (2001).

Word on the Street: As usual, this Pixar film has a great cast - including Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren, Sean Hayes and Nathan Fillion.

My Take: Last two Pixar films, "Cars 2" (2011) and "Brave" (2012) weren't quite the critical and box office winners that other Pixar films in the past were. Can the Monster team get Pixar back on track?

"World War Z" (2013)

World War Z
Source: Paramount Pictures

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) just might be the world's only hope to stop the zombie apocalypse that is at the break of destroying all mankind. World War Z Website

What to Watch For: Brad Pitt's production company beat out others in a bidding war for the rights to the story. It's been Pitt's pet project for the past couple of years.

Word on the Street: The film was originally scheduled for a December release last year, but production delays and a last minute re-write made it a summer release.

My Take: The trailer and ads don't make it clear to the audience that this is a film about zombies. Brad Pitt made an appearance at a screening here in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago.

"Much Ado About Nothing" (2013)

Much Ado About Nothing
Souce: Roadside Attrractions

A modern retelling of the William Shakespeare comedy by the same name, about Beatrice (Amy Acker) and Benedick (Alexis Denisof) who are two life-long single people that everyone else is determined to get them together. Much Ado About Nothing Website

What to Watch For: The film was shot in 12 days while Director Josh Whedon was on a post-production break from "The Avengers."

Word on the Street: Whedon uses a bunch of actors from his past TV series including "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly." Nathan Fillion and Tom Lenk are said to steal the movie as two bumbling sheriffs.

My Take: I will be interested to see how this Shakespeare comedy does at the box office against "Monsters University" and "World War Z."

"The Bling Ring" (2013)

Based on actually events, a group of teenagers use the internet to plan when and where to rob celebrities' homes. The Bling Ring Website

What to Watch For: Writer/Director Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation" (2003), "Marie Antoinette" (2006)) is hot off bringing the film to the Cannes Film Festival.

Word on the Street: One of the film's stars, Emma Watson, is having a nice career with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (2012) and "This is The End" (2013) post her Harry Potter success.

My Take: The film should be fun to watch, as a number of celebrities are making cameos including Kirsten Dunst and Paris Hilton.

If you can't go to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.

"Hitman" (2007) Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) isn't your ordinary hitman – he has been raised since birth to be a cold blooded killer. So when the gun-for-hire takes a job from "The Organization," he travels across Europe; being pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military. He then meets a mysterious Russian woman (Olga Kurylenko) who just may change his way of life.

"88 Minutes" (2007) On the day that a man he helped convict is going to be executed, John Graham (Al Pacino), a noted forensic psychologist, gets a call telling him that he only has 88 minutes to live.
