On a mystic island called Motunui Island in Polynesia, a 16-year-old girl named Moana (Auli'l Cravalho) teams up with the legendary demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on a journey to save her people. Moana Website

What to Watch For:  Some of the songs in the film were created by Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Word on the Street:  The directors of the film recruited experts from across the South Pacific to assure the film is culturally accurate.

My Take:  I love that Disney is going to dub the film with a translation into the Tahitian language to show the movie in the South Pacific.

The film opens nationwide on Wednesday.

Allied  (2016)

During World War II Canadian intelligence officer Max (Brad Pitt) meets and then marries French Resistance fighter Marianne (Marion Cotillard). While they are living in London, Max is told that Marianne is a German spy. Allied Website

What to Watch For:  The film is written by Steven Knight, who says the film is based on a true story told to him when he was 21.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, who won an Oscar for directing the 1996 smash hit Forest Gump.

My Take:  I have been a fan of Marion Cotillard since her Oscar-winning performance in La mome (2007).

Bad Santa 2  (2016)

What to Watch For:  The film is a sequel to the 2003 film Bad Santa.

Word on the Street:  The film is directed by Mark Waters who directed Mean Girls (2004) and Mr. Popper's Penguins.

My Take:  I'll go see any film that has six-time Emmy nominated Christina Hendricks.

Rules Don't Apply  (2016)

The film follows the romantic relationship in 1958 Hollywood between a young actress (Lily Collins) and her driver (Alden Ehrenreich), a relationship that is forbidden by the driver's boss, world famous millionaire Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty). Rules Don't Apply Website

What to Watch For:  Writer/director Warren Beatty has been trying to get this film made for the past forty years after seeing Hughes in a hotel lobby back in the 1970s.

Word on the Street:  Many film critics feel that a song that Lily Collins sings in the film could get an Academy Award nomination.

My Take:  I want to see this film because I have always been fascinated by the life of Howard Hughes.

Nocturnal Animals (2016)

An art gallery owner, Susan (Amy Adams) is in an unhappy marriage. She unexpectantly receives a novel written by her ex-husband (Jake Gyllenhaal). As she begins to read the story, we see a family of three (Jake Gyllenhaal, Isla Fisher, and Ellie Bamber) get terrorized by a bunch of men on a lonely Texas highway. As Susan flashbacks to her first marriage, she also continues to read the shocking book. Nocturnal Animals Website

What to Watch For: The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film was bought by Focus Films for 20 million dollars, one of the biggest buys ever at the Cannes Film Festival.

My Take: Amy Adams can do no wrong.

The film opens in the Atlanta area on Wednesday.


Seasons  (2016)

The film looks at the four seasons and how they after and affect both mankind and animals. Seasons Website

What to Watch For:  The filmmakers traveled the world over four years to make this documentary.

Word on the Street: The film was nominated for the Films4Family Youth Jury Award at the 2016 Seattle International Film Festival.

My Take:  I am always up for a good nature documentary.

The film opens on Friday at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema
