Man On A Ledge

Sam Worthington plays a former cop who escapes from prison to try and clear his name as he's been accused and convicted of stealing a 40 million dollar diamond. Is his stunt of standing on the 23rd floor hotel room ledge a way to get the police to listen to him or is there more to this than meets the eye? Man On A Ledge website

What to Watch For: This film doesn't have a lot of big name stars to its opening, so the studio is hoping for good word-of-mouth with lots of pre-opening screenings.

Word on the Street: Jamie Bell, as the brother, and Genesis Rodriquez, as his girlfriend, steal the movie with their bickering back-and-forth game.

One for the Money

Based on the bestselling book by Janet Evanovich, Katherine Heigl plays Stephanie Plum, a recent divorcee who is desperate for a job, and she becomes a bounty hunter for a bail-bonds business. Her first assignment - to find a man who she was once involved with. One For The Money website

What to Watch For: Will book-fans go see this film, and will women, in general, turn out for this film as they did for 27 Dresses?

Word on the Street: Katherine Heigl needs a hit to restore her once promising career. Will this be it?

The Grey

The Grey Poster

In the dead of winter a plane crashes in the wilderness of Alaska. The survivors, led by a hunter named Ottway (played by Liam Neeson), must make it back to civilization. The survivors' biggest problem isn't lack of food or weapons, and not even the deep snow. It's that they've been targeted by a pack of wolves. The Grey website

What to Watch For: Environmentalists and animal activists are not happy with the film, as it doesn't portray wolves in a good light. The film is the target of several boycotts.

Word on the Street: Take a warm sweater when you see this film. You are sure to be cold since almost the entire film takes place outdoors, in very cold conditions.

Albert Nobbs

A woman (played by Glenn Close) in 19th century Ireland has, for more than thirty years, been posing as a man to get work as a waiter. The main character saved her money and is on the brink of buying a tobacco shop when she meets a young maid (played by Mia Wasikowska). Her secret may then be revealed. Albert Nobbs website

What to Watch For: Glenn Close starred in a stage production of Albert Nobbs in 1982 and has been trying to get this film made for almost 30 years.

Word on the Street: Close may get an Oscar nomination for this role, but it's co-star, Janet McTeer, who is getting most of the praise from the critics.

If you can't make it to the theatre, then stay at home and watch movies on CW69 this weekend.

Vivica A. Fox, Toni Braxton, Cedric the Entertainer and Whoopi Goldberg round out the cast.

Sunday at 2:00 pm
The Fisher King (1991) An abrasive talk radio host, Jack Lucas (played by Jeff Bridges), makes comments on-air that incite a caller to kill people at a NYC bar.
