Preview This! Man of Steel

Opening this week at a theatre near you:

"Man of Steel" (2013)

Man Of Steel

Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) has always known he was different and do what other boys his age could only dream about. Clark discovers that he is from another planet, and has been sent by his parents to protect mankind with his superhuman powers. His adopted world is suddenly being threatened by an invasion of men. Men who happen to come from his home planet, that are bent on destruction. Man of Steel Website

What to Watch For: This is the second attempt to reboot the "Superman" franchise. "Superman Returns" (2006), starring Brandon Routh didn't exactly set the world on fire.

Word on the Street: Director Zach Snyder, of "300" fame, was under the close watch of Christopher Nolan, director of the "Dark Knight" trilogy.

My Take: Michael Shannon as a bad guy? Oh, yeah! I'll go see that movie in a heartbeat.

"This Is The End" (2013)

This Is The End

Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel are the best of friends who hangout when Jay comes into L.A. from Canada on a visit. Seth and Jay go to a party at James Franco's house, but while they are there it looks as if the world just might be coming to an end. Will anyone at Franco's party know the difference? This Is The End Website

What to Watch For: There are a ton of cameos in this film, especially in the party scenes.

Word on the Street: This comedy is said to be extremely raunchy. Think Judd Apatow ("Knocked Up") but notched up on the richter scale.

My Take: I always enjoy when actors can make fun of themselves, and they do that quite a bit in this film.

"Before Midnight" (2013)

Before Midnight

It's been nine years since we have seen Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy). They are now living in Paris with their twin girls. Can love be enough to keep them together? Before Midnight Website

What to Watch For: This is the third film in Director Richard Linklater "Before" series ("Before Sunrise" (1995) and "Before Sunset" (2004)). As with the previous films, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy also co-wrote the script with Linklater.

Word on the Street: The film is getting rave reviews from critics and it was a big hit at the Sundance Film Festival.

My Take: I almost guarantee that I will want another sequel (let's call it "After Midnight") after I see this one.

If you can't go to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.

"Like Father, Like Son" (1987) A mysterious potion switches a father (Dudley Moore) who has an A-Type personality with his son (Kirk Cameron), whose has a much more laid back demeanor, into each other's bodies.
