Opening this week at a theatre near you:
Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) puts a curse on a child (Elle Fanning) only to realize that the child may be the key to peace in her kingdom. "Maleficent" Website
What to Watch For: Most of the cast are up and coming stars, including Fanning, India Eisley, and Imelda Staunton.
Word on the Street: The film is being billed as the untold story of the villain from "Sleeping Beauty." This film has been the talk of the Sci-Fi world for years.
My Take: Disney spent a ton of money to make this film, taking a chance on first time director, Robert Stromberg.
"A Million Ways to Die in the West" (2014)
Albert (Seth MacFarlane) is a down on his luck farmer when he meets a beautiful woman named, Anna(Charlize Theron) and instantly falls in love with her. She feels the same way. but there is a problem. She is married. And, not only is she married, she is married to the meanest, fastest gunfighter in the west (Liam Neeson). "A Million Ways to Die in the West" Website
What to Watch For: Can MacFarlane, in a western, bring in the same audience who made his 2012 film, "Ted" such a hit?
Word on the Street: Giovanni Ribisi and Sarah Silverman are said to steal the film with their comedic talents.
My Take: Every time I see a trailer for this film, I think about one of my favorite comedies, "Blazing Saddles."
"For No Good Reason" (2013)
Ralph Steadman is a legendary artist with a very unique style. Johnny Depp pays a visit to Steadman's studio in the documentary about the artist who had close ties to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. "For No Good Reason" Website
What to Watch For: There is some great archival footage showing the interactions between Steadman and Thompson.
Word on the Street: The movie took 15 years to make, and Steadman only agreed to be on camera.
My Take: I am looking forward to what Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam has to say in this film.
If you can't make it to the theatre this weekend, then stay at home and watch movies on CW69.
