A group of bullied kids ban together when a monster named, Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard), who has taken the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children. IT website

What to Watch For:  The film is based on a novel by Stephen King.  He was shown an early print of the film and said that the movie exceeded his expectations.

Word on the Street:  The first trailer for the film set a record of 197 million views on the first day of release.

My Take:  This has been one of the most talked about films for the fall.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Home Again  (2017) PG-13

Alice (Reese Witherspoon) is a single mom living in Los Angeles.  Her life changes when she lets three young men move in with her. Home Again Website

What to Watch For:  Witherspoon and Candice Bergen (who plays Alice's mother) were previously in Sweet Home Alabama together.

Word on the Street:  Rose Byrne was attached to the role that Reese Witherspoon plays.

My Take:  I am always up for a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Columbus  (2017)

Jin (John Cho) is a Korean-born man who finds himself stuck in Columbus, Indiana because his father is in a coma. He meets Casey (Haley Lu Richardson), a young woman who is staying in Columbus because she has to support her mother who is a recovering addict. https://www.facebook.com/ColumbusMov/

What to Watch For:  The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Independent Film Festival of Boston.

Word on the Street: The film is currently at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes with 53 film critic reviews.

My Take:  I can't wait to see this film.

The film opens in Atlanta Friday exclusively at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema.

Gun Shy  (2017)

An aging rock star, Turk (Antonio Banderas), is on vacation when his wife (Olga Kurylenko) is abducted by a group of renegades. Now, Turk will have to navigate through deadly jungles and take on the bandits to get his wife back.

What to Watch For:  This comedy was filmed in Chile. Gun Shy Info

Word on the Street:  The film's budget was obtained through equity crowd funding.

My Take:  I find it funny that a real TV news crew appears in the film when they were there to just trying to interview Antonio Banderas.

Beach Rats  (2017)  R

Frankie (Harrison Dickinson) is trying to escape his bleak home life in Brooklyn.  He has found hope in a potential new girlfriend (Madeline Weinstein), his friends and chatting with older men online. Beach Rats Website

What to Watch For:  The film has won a number of awards at film festivals including the Grand Jury Award at the 2017 L.A. Outfest.

Word on the Street:  The film was shot entirely on 16 mm film.

My Take:  This has been on my must see list since the director, Eliza Hittman, won the Directing Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

The Karate Kid (1984)  Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and his mom move to California. When he has numerous run-ins with a local karate dojo, he turns to a martial arts master (Pat Morita) to teach him how to survive.
