Identity Thief

Sandy Patterson (Jason Bateman) discovers that his identity has been stolen, and it's causing him a world of problems. Sandy finds out that the identity thief is a woman named Diana (Melissa McCarthy) and that she is living large in another state. So, Sandy goes on a road trip to hunt down Diana and bring her back to clear his name.

What to Watch For: It will be interesting to see how well this R rated comedy does, as it seems that R rated comedies have lost a lot of steam recently, like the poorly received Movie 43 and A Haunted House.

Word on the Street: Director Seth Gordon directed Jason Bateman in the 2011 comedy film Horrible Bosses, so both felt really comfortable working together.

My Take: Melissa McCarthy has stolen every film she has been in recently, including her Oscar nominated role in 2011's Bridesmaids and last year's This is 40. The big question - is she up for headlining a feature film?

Side Effects (2013)

Emily's (Rooney Mara) husband Martin (Channing Tatum) is just released from prison for serving time for insider trading. But life is getting her down and, after an apparent suicide try, Emily agrees to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Banks (Jude Law). He decides to treat Emily with a new product recently introduced to the public, a product that may cause deadly consequences.

What to Watch For: This is the first feature film for Mara after her breakout performance in the 2010 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Word on the Street: The screen writer, Scott Z. Burns, is a favorite of Soderbergh, as they worked together on the 2009 film The Informant! and 2011's Contagion.

My Take: This maybe director Steven Soderbergh's last feature film before he moves full time in TV producing/directing.  I hope this isn't true because Soderbergh always creates interesting and thoughtful films.

Café de Flore (2013)

Cafe de Flore

The story of two love stories, set 40 years apart. One, set in present day, is about a divorced woman, Carole (Helene Florent) who is convinced that her ex-husband, Antoine (Kevin Parent) is still the love of her life, and she is determined to get him back. The second story, set 40 years earlier, is about the love a single mother, Jacqueline (Vanessa Paradis), has for her son, Laurent (Lucas Bonin), who was born with Down's syndrome. She is determined to provide the best for her son, but it's a struggle to keep him alive and well.

What to Watch For: The film moves back and forth between the two time periods, so the big question is, how are the two stories connected?

Word on the Street: The film was a big hit on the festival circuit, and many thought that Vanessa Paradis deserved an Oscar nomination for her performance.

My Take: This is a film that will stay with you for quite a while, with incredible moving performances given by the entire cast.

What to Watch For: Walt Disney is releasing a special edition Blu-Ray / DVD in honor of the films 60th anniversary.

Word on the Street: Disney is releasing never before seen deleted scenes, alternate endings and deleted songs.

My Take: Anytime I watch the classic Disney animated films, I marvel at how great the music is.
