Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)

Things are changing, once again, with the gang in this fourth installment of the Ice Age animated series. Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) find themselves on a floating iceberg after they are separated from their friends and family as the continents begin to drift apart. Now, the trio must battle the sea and pirates to get back to their loved ones. Ice Age: Continental Drift website

What to Watch For: This is the second film in the successful series to release in 3-D, with 2009's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs being the first; which at the time became the fourth highest grossing animated film of all time, making almost a billion dollars worldwide.

Word on the Street: A 3-D Simpsons short is shown before the feature, titled The Longest Daycare, as baby Maggie has an adventure.

My Take: A number of new cast members have been added to spice things up a bit including Peter Dinklage as the pirate leader, Captain Gutt, Jennifer Lopez as Shira, a saber-tooth tiger love-interest for our hero, Diego, and Drake, a teenage wooly mammoth named Ethan.

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)

A six year old girl named, Hushpuppy (Quvenzhane Wallis), lives with her father, Wink (Dwight Henry), in a community in the southern Delta called "The Bathtub," a low water area in front of the levees. Wink knows that he is sick and probably is going to die from a bad heart. Add to that, any sort of storm could wipe out his home; which leads him to be tough on Hushpuppy. He's trying to teach her how to survive on her own in this rough world. Beasts of the Southern Wild website

What to Watch For: Quvenzhane Wallis, who lights up the screen with her performance as the tough as nails girl is getting mentioned quite a bit for a possible Oscar nomination.

Word on the Street: The film has won awards at some of the most prestigious Film Festivals, including Sundance, Seattle International, Cannes. The film just won the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival a few weeks ago.

My Take: This is a magical film that audiences will find wondrous and beautiful - a film worthy of its winning pedigree.

If you can't make it to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch Movies on CW69.
