What to Watch For: Director Christopher Landon (son of actor Michael Landon) wrote all but the first of the Paranormal Activity films and last directed the2015 film, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.

Word on the Street:  Originally Megan Fox was attached to the role that Jessica Rothe plays.

My Take:  I'm always up for a good horror film.

What to Watch For:  Director Martin Campbell is known for his James Bond films GoldenEye (1995) and Casino Royale (2006).

Word on the Street:  Pierce Brosnan, who worked with Campbell on GoldenEye, plays a government official that may hold the key for Quan to finding the terrorists.

My Take:  In my opinion, Jackie Chan is the greatest action star of all time because he does almost all of his own stunts.

Marshall  (2017)  PG-13

Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown) is accused of raping his employer, Mrs. Strubing (Kate Hudson). NAACP lawyer Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) is sent to defend him and is forced by the court to use local lawyer Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), who typically works on insurance cases.    Marshall Website

What to Watch For:  This film is based on a true story. Thurgood Marshall won 32 out of 35 cases presented to the Supreme Court, a court that he would be appointed to later in his life.

Word on the Street: The film had its world premiere at Howard University, the prestigious, historically black university in Washington, D.C. Thurgood Marshall was a graduate of the university.

My Take: Chadwick Boseman is certainly getting a lot of roles based on real people. He starred in the film 42 (2013) playing Jackie Robinson and Get on Up (2014), playing James Brown.

The true story of psychologist William Moulton Marston (Luke Evans), who was in a polyamorous relationship between his wife (Rebecca Hall) and his mistress (Bella Heathcote). What to Watch For:  The impressive supporting cast including Oliver Platt, Connie Britton, and Chris Conroy.

Word on the Street:  The film is written and directed by the award-winning Angela Robinson, who wrote and directed the 2004 film D.E.B.S..

My Take:  I am a big fan of Rebecca Hall.

What to Watch For:  The film won the Palm Dog award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and its writer/director Noah Baumbach was nominated for a Palme d'Or.

Word on the Street:  The film is currently at 90% with fifty reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

My Take: I am hearing from fellow critics that both Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller give outstanding performances in this film.

King's Choice  (2017)

What to Watch For:  The film won 8 times and was nominated for four more awards at the Amanda Awards, Norway's version of the Academy Awards.

Word on the Street:  This film is the official submission for Norway for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards in 2017.

My Take:  I am interested to see this film as I know very little about Norway during WW II.

What to Watch For:  The film includes interviews with music icons Bonnie Raitt, Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Perry, and Johnny Winter.

Word on the Street:  The film was nominated for an Audience Award at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival and won two awards at the 2016 Nashville Film Festival.

My Take: The idea for the film came when writer/director Scott Rosenbaum talked off camera to the three men while making his 2009 drama The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll.

The film opens exclusively at Plaza Theatre.

M.F.A.  (2017)

What to Watch For: Francesca Eastwood is the daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fisher.

Word on the Street: The film won the audience award at the 2017 Jameson CineFest - Miskolc International Film Festival and was nominated for two awards at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival.

My Take:  This was one of the films that everyone was talking about at SXSW Film Festival when I was there.

The film opens Friday exclusively at Plaza Theatre.
