Preview This! "Godzilla"
Opening this week at a theatre near you:
"Godzilla" (2014)
The legendary monster is back in this story of his origin. "Godzilla" Website
What to Watch For: The film has been in the works since 2004. This is without a doubt the best cast a Godzilla film has ever had with Bryan Cranston, Sally Hawkins, Elizabeth Olsen and Ken Watanabe in key roles.
Word on the Street: The fan-boys have been excited about this for years, and the designers of the monster went back to the first films to get the Godzilla design right.
My Take: With one of the best trailers out there, I have high expectations for this film.
"Million Dollar Arm" (2014)
A sports agent (Jon Hamm) who has seen better days needs the next big thing to resurrect his career. He gets the idea to go to India and find cricket players who could make it in Major League Baseball. "Million Dollar Arm" Website
What to Watch For: This is TV's "Mad Men" star Hamm's first feature leading role.
Word on the Street: Lake Bell who plays the romantic interest of Hamm's character is fresh off her own film "In a World…" This could get Bell bigger roles if the film is a success.
My Take: Disney has a great track record with inspirational sports films.
"The Double" (2014)
Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is the type of guy who nobody notices. He works as a clerk in a government job and is secretly in love with a co-worker named, Hannah (Mia Wasikowska). One day Jesse (Jesse Eisenberg) shows up, looking exactly like Simon and he's everything that Simon isn't; confident, brash and has a winning personality that everyone loves. Worst yet, Hannah likes him too. "The Double" Website
What to Watch For: This one of the most talked about films at this year's Atlanta Film Festival.
Word on the Street: Wallace Shawn (the voice of Rex in the "Toy Story" movies) is getting rave reviews from critics as Simon's boss.
My Take: Eisenberg is one of the most interesting actors working today with an almost chameleon ability to change from role to role. That he gets to play two roles in this film is an added bonus
"God's Pocket" (2014)
Mickey's (Philip Seymour Hoffman) stepson dies in a construction job. When he is asked to investigate the death by the boy's mother (Christina Hendricks), he learns that it wasn't an accident. Investigating it further could cost Mickey his life. "God's Pocket" Website
What to Watch For: This is one of the last films that the Oscar winning Hoffman made before his death.
Word on the Street: Could Hoffman get a posthumous Oscar nomination?
My Take: I want to see this film as it is directed by long time TV star John Slattery ("Mad Men," "Desperate Housewives").
If you can't make it to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.
