"Edge of Tomorrow"  (2014)

Cage (Tom Cruise) is a soldier in a war against an alien invasion force. He is killed by the aliens, only to wake up right where he started that day.  He is soon discovered by Rita (Emily Blunt), a fellow soldier who figures out that Cage is the key to winning the war.  Now Cage has to keep dying, learning all he can about defeating the aliens. What to Watch For:  The film isn't directed by your normal, action filmmaker.  This film is directed by Doug Liman, who has directed such critic favorites as "Swingers" (1996), "Go" (1999) and "Fair Game" (2010).

Word on the Street:  The feeling is that this film could be the big box office hit that Cruise has missed on the past couple of years.

My Take:  Emily Blunt as a butt-kicking soldier?  I'm in!

"The Fault in Our Stars"  (2014)

Gus (Ansel Elgort) is a cancer survivor with a prosthetic leg.  Hazel (Shailene Woodley) has cancer and her constant companion is an oxygen tank.  They meet  at a cancer support group and fall in love.  Just how long will this relationship last? "The Fault in Our Stars" Website

What to Watch For:  One of the most anticipated films of the summer.  The film is based on the bestselling Young Adult novel of the same name by John Green.

Word on the Street:  Hot off her critically acclaimed performances in "The Descendants" (2011) and "The Spectacular Now" (2013), and her box office hit "Divergent" (2014), Woodley is poised to be a big star, and this film just may make her one.

My Take:  Kind of interesting that Woodley and Elgort were brother/sister in "Divergent" and now they are in a romantic relationship in this one.

"Cold in July"  (2014)

Awakened in the middle of the night, Richard Dane (Michael C. Hall) kills an unarmed intruder in his home.  When the dead man's father (Sam Shepard) shows up, Richard feels threatened.  So he hires a private detective (Don Johnson) to protect him and his family, but things just get more and more complicated. What to Watch For:  This is the first headlining role for Michael C. Hall after his extraordinary work on the TV series "Dexter".

Word on the Street:  The film was a big hit with movie goers and critics at the Sundance and Cannes film festivals.

My Take:  I am most interested in seeing Don Johnson is this role, as I think he has the chops to knock it out of the park.

"Words & Pictures"  (2014)

Dina Delsanto (Juliette Binoche) is an artist who has developed rheumatoid arthritis. She needs help on a daily basis to get around, so she moves to a new town and begins teaching at a prestigious private high school. She instantly clashes with the English teacher, Jack Marcus (Clive Owen), an alcoholic writer who hasn't written anything in years. Now the question is which is more powerful…words or pictures? "Words and Pictures" Website

What to Watch For:  This is a departure from Owen's usual roles as a tough guy in films such as "Shoot 'Em Up" (2006).

Word on the Street:  The chemistry between Binoche and Owen is said to be the highlight of the film.

My Take:  I understand that the paintings done by Binoche's character are actual paintings done by the actress.
