The Gotham City-based Batman (Ben Affleck) travels to Metropolis to take on Superman (Henry Cavil), who he feels has become an endangerment to humans. Little do the two superheroes know another person in Metropolis is plotting their deaths,the mysterious Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice"

What to Watch For:  The is a follow up to 2013's "Man of Steel" film and is the second installment of the "DC Extended Universe."

Word on the Street:  The fanboys have been talking about this movie for years, especially when they found out Affleck rewrote some of the script after filming began.

My Take:  I am excited to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and hope she gets her own film series soon.

The film opens Friday at Atlanta area theatres.

 

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding"  (2016)

Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett) have been married for a while and have a daughter (Elena Kampouris) who is about to go off to college. A family member is about to be married in even a bigger Greek wedding and family secrets are about to come out. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" Website

What to Watch For:  This is a sequel to the very successful 2002 film, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Both films were written by the movie's star, Nia Vardalos.

Word on the Street:  The film brings back most of the cast from the first film, including Lainie Kazan and Andrea Martin.

My Take:  I really liked the first movie.

"Eye in the Sky"  (2016)

Colonel Powell (Helen Mirren) is leading a secret drone mission to capture a terrorist group living in a building in Kenya. 2nd Lieutenant Steve Watts (Arron Paul)is given the task of flying the drone.  Things change when they find out that one of world's most deadly terrorists is in the building with bombs that could do massive damage. What to Watch For:  The four principal actors in the film, Hellen Mirren, Alan Rickman, Arron Paul and Barked Abdi, did not film their scenes together. The film was shot in South Africa, where the director, Gavin Hood, is from.

Word on the Street:  The film has played at several film festivals including the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

My Take:  I am in for any film with Helen Mirren.

"Remember"  (2015)

What to Watch For:  The film played to packed houses this year at the Atlanta Film Festival.

Word on the Street:  The film won the audience award at the 2015 Mar del Plata Film Festival and the Vittorio Veneto Film Festival Award at the 2015 Venice Film Festival.

My Take:  Christopher Plummer has given some great performances in his later career, including his Oscar-winning role in the 2012 film "Beginners."

The film opens on Friday exclusively at Lefont Sandy Springs. 

 

"Krisha" (2015)

Krisha (Krisha Fairchild) is returning for Thanksgiving after being away for ten years.  Not everyone will be glad that she has returned, as the past will likely be revisited. "Krisha" Website

What to Watch For:  The film was nominated for Best Narrative Feature at the 2015 Atlanta Film Festival and won both the Audience and Grand Jury awards at last year's SXSW Film Festival.

Word on the Street:   The film is currently at 97% with the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

My Take:  The film was the talk of last year's SXSW Film Festival.

"City of Gold"

What to Watch For:  Gold is the only food critic that has won a Pulitzer Prize.

Word on the Street:  Gold doesn't just visit the high-end restaurants. He is just as likely to review a mom and pop hole-in-the-wall and give it an excellent review.

My Take:  I have wanted to see this film since it was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

"Easter Mysteries"  (2016)

What to Watch For:  The cast consists of talented Broadway veterans who have graced the stages of Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Porgy and Bess, Phantom of The Opera, and more.

Word on the Street:  Broadway veteran actor Phillip Boykin, who plays Caiaphas, is enthusiastic about the production. "This is a Passion play like no other. The love bursts forth and the music soars. First there was 'Godspell,' then there was 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' then there was 'Joseph,' and now there's 'Easter Mysteries,' and it's at the top of my list!'"

My Take:  The show will only air in theatres on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:00 pm.
