Opening this week at a theater near you:
Alex Cross (2012)
Dr. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is a police detective who is accustomed to catching his man. Cross is able to use both his training as a policeman and a psychologist to his advantage. But Cross has met his match in a serial killer called Michael "The Butcher" Sullivan (Matthew Fox) who kills his victims, while managing to easily evade the police. Now, "The Butcher" has a new victim in his sites, Cross's wife, and it's up to Alex to bring him down. Alex Cross website
What to Watch For: Will audiences accept Tyler Perry in his first action role or would Idris Elba (Prometheus, Thor), who was originally signed for the role, have been a better choice for Dr. Cross?
Word on the Street: Fans of Matthew Fox's "Lost" TV days are going to be surprised in his appearance. He went on an extreme workout regimen, adding lots muscle and has almost no body fat.
My Take: I'm just not sure this film is the best idea, as Mr. Morgan Freeman has already played the Dr. Alex Cross role - a role he did so well in 1997's "Kiss the Girls" and 2001's "Along Came a Spider."
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
This film takes place five years after Katie (Katie Featherston) kidnapped her baby brother, Hunter (Brady Allen). Katie has re-named Hunter as Robbie and they have moved into a new neighborhood. Things will never be the same for the family who live next door. Paranomral Activity 4 website
What to Watch For: After having a supporting role in the Paranormal Activity 2 and 3, Katie Featherston is back playing the main character.
Word on the Street: This is a more of the sequel to the first film. The other two films in the series were really prequels to the first Paranormal Activity.
My Take: If you liked Paranormal Activity 1 -3, I am sure you will like this one.
Tai Chi Zero (2012)
Chen Village is a place where everyone is a master of martial arts, even children. A young man, Lu Chan (Jayden Yuan), comes to the village to learn the Chen fighting style, even though it is forbidden for outsiders to learn. When the village discovers that there are plans to destroy their village to build a railway, they decide to trust Lu Chan with their sacred style fighting in hopes that he will lead them to victory. Tai Chi Zero IMDB page
What to Watch For: This film has been developed with the intent of combining the Steampunk Sci-Fi genre (think modern times with locomotive engines and Victorian clothing) with martial arts.
Word on the Street: The film contains quite a bit of humor and is using video games to influence the shooting style of filmmaking for its fighting sequences.
My Take: If this takes off, then Jayden Yuan could become the next Jet Li.
