A street urchin named Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and an evil, power-hungry Gran Vizier (Marwan Kenzari) vie for an all-powerful genie (Will Smith) who resides inside a magic lamp. Both men are also vying for the hand of Jasmine (Naomi Scott). Aladdin Website

What to Watch For: This is a live remake of the 1992 Disney animated film starring Robin Williams as the Genie.

Word on the Street: Disney made extreme efforts to cast actors that had the right ethnicity for the Arabian setting.

My Take: I am hoping they let Will Smith just go nuts as they did with Robin Williams in the animated version.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.


Brightburn (2019) R

What to Watch For: The film was shot in Georgia, including Patrick Henry High School in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Word on the Street: The director of the film is David Yarovesky who's first feature film was the 2014 horror film The Hive.

My Take: It is going to be interesting to see what Elizabeth Banks can do in a serious role for a change.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

What to Watch For: The film is the feature film directorial debut for actress Olivia Wilde who also appears in the film.

Word on the Street: The film won Best Narrative Feature at the 2019 San Francisco International Film Festival.

My Take: I have heard wonderful things about this film from fellow film critics.

Word on the Street: The film has won ten awards at film festivals across the country including the Audience Award at the 2018 AFI Fest.

My Take: I can't wait to see this film.

What to Watch For: The film is narrated by Academy Award winner Jodie Foster.

Word on the Street: Green not only found footage from her films not seen before but also two interviews were done with Guy-Blache in her later life.

My Take: I love the history of film, so you know I will be seeing this one.

What to Watch For: The film was nominated for a VeniceVenice Horizons Award at the 2018 Venice Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by award-winning director Mary Harron, know for her films I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), American Psycho (2000) and The Notorious Bettie Page (2005).

My Take: To see Matt Smith as Manson should be interesting.

My Take: I will go see anything Melanie Laurent is in.

Non-Fiction (2018)

Alain (Guillaume Canet) is married to Selena (Juliette Binoche) and is a publisher. His longtime friend and client, Leonard (Vincent Macaigne) has written a book he wants Alain to published. Alian declines as the book is a thin shaded version of Leonard's life. Things are about to go downhill quickly between the two men. Non-Fiction Website

What to Watch For: The film has done very well on the international film festival circuit.

Word on the Street: In a rarity for a feature film, it was shot on 16mm.

My Take: It will interesting to see Juliette Binoche in a comedy, as she rarely does one.
