Metro Atlanta Schools Announce Reopening Plans For 2020-21 School Year
ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) -- As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports an increasing number of coronavirus cases, school systems in the Metro Atlanta area release plans for reopening for the 2020-21 school year.
Below are the proposed start dates and current plans announced by several school districts, which officials have said are subject to change based on changes in COVID-19 patterns.
Most districts have opted for Virtual, Digital or Universal Remote Learning, which means students will learn from home until further notice. However, several will also open schools for in-person learning at the beginning of the school year. Click on the links for more information, including any mask requirements.
- Proposed start date: Monday, August 24
- Virtual Learning through the district's plan called "Day One 2020 Return + Learn"
- APS staff to start on Monday, August 3
- School board will discuss the 2020-21 year during a final reading on August 3
- Start date: Monday, August 17
- Universal Remote Learning
- School board meeting on July 23 to engage with the community
DeKalb County School District:
- Start date: Monday, August 17
- Distance/remote learning
- Plans to provide updated assessments and any plan adjustments on a monthly basis
- Start date: Monday, August 17
- Virtual learning
- Monitoring health data to determine when face-to-face instruction can resume
- Start date: Wednesday, August 12
- Digital instruction
- Monitoring health data to determine when face-to-face instruction can resume
- Start date: Monday, August 10
- Virtual instruction
- Employee workday calendar remains the same
- Start date: Thursday, August 6
- Choice of Face-to-Face or Virtual instruction
- Deadline for middle and high school virtual learning through Forsyth Virtual Academy is July 31.
- Start date: Monday, August 17
- Remote Learning for all students
- Once campuses are allowed to open, families can opt to return to classrooms or continue virtual learning
Cherokee County School District:
- Start date: Monday, August 3
- Deadline to opt for Digital Learning ended July 17, unless a student's school closes due to the COVID-19 pandemic
- Traditional In-Person Learning available
