NCCU Football Rallies to Edge Falcons in Double Overtime
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University scored a touchdown in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, then made a 19-yard field goal in double overtime to beat visiting Saint Augustine's University 23-20 inside O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday.
NCCU (1-1) lit the scoreboard first with a 32-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jordan Reid to senior receiver Lamar Scruggs with 3:51 remaining in the third quarter. Reid was injured on the play and could not perform his typical holding duties for the extra-point kick, which ended up failing because of a bobbled snap.
St. Augustine's (0-1) answered on its next drive, using six plays to move 66 yards, capped by a 25-yard pass from A.J. Gilford to Herman Reaves at the 2:42 mark of the third quarter. The extra-point kick by Michael Lima put the Falcons on top 7-6.
The visitors extended their lead when Gilford found Brian Richards for a 6-yard touchdown connection with 6:18 left in the fourth quarter. After two penalties on the extra-point try, the Falcons mishandled the snap from center and could not get off a kick, keeping the score at 13-6.

McGhee, Defense Leads Howard to Win Over Morehouse
WASHINGTON, DC - Greg McGhee passed for 242 yards and three TDs and added 54 more on the ground and the defense recorded nine sacks to lead Howard to a 27-16 win over Morehouse College in the Third Annual AT&T Nation's Football Classic before 17,012 at RFK Stadium.
The Maroon Tigers (0-1) got on the board first when they drove 68 yards on 13 plays and got the ball down to the Bison 20-yard line but had to settle for 37-yard Hector Solis field goal.
The Bison (1-1) responded on their next possession when they countered with a 42-yard field goal by John Fleck that knotted the score at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.
From there, the Howard defense began to harass the Morehouse quarterbacks, recording nine sacks. McGhee took advantage of their play by putting together three drives. The first took six plays and resulted in a 20-yard strike in the corner of the end to freshman running back Anthony Philyaw.
The junior from Pittsburgh, Pa came right back with another six-play drive, but it stalled and Howard had to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Fleck.
McGhee closed out the half with a 27-yard pass to Matt Colvin that upped the margin to 20-3 at the half.

FAMU falls to Tennessee State in home opener, 27-7
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tennessee State used special teams and defense to hand the Florida A&M Football team their first loss of the season as the Tigers defeated the Rattlers, 27-7 loss, here Saturday afternoon at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
This was 12th time in the series that FAMU has faced Tennessee State in Bragg Memorial Stadium with today's win give the Tigers the eighth win in Tallahassee, Fla.
The last time, FAMU faced TSU in the Bragg Memorial Stadium was in 1997 with the Rattlers pulling a 43-28 win over the Blue Bengal from Nashville, Tenn.
David Van Dyke gave TSU their first sc ore of the game as he recorded a 46yard interception return for TD with 12:30 remaining in the first quarter, giving the Tigers a 7-0, after the Jamin Godfrey PAT.
Six minutes later, the Tigers would increase their lead as Tim Broughton would score from 10-yards out, capping an eight-play, 65-yard drive, and increasing TSU's lead to 14-0, after the Godfrey PAT.

Jones Throws Three TDs, Bears Fall 31-14
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Robert Morris employed a balanced attack against the Bears defense as they accumulated 384 total yards of offense and was dominant on defense.
RMU's 6-4, 265 pound quarterback Paul Jones tossed three touchdowns and running back Deontae Howard ran for a score to help lift the Colonials to a 31-14 victory at Joe Walton Stadium on Saturday.
Jones, a transfer from Penn State, completed 13-of-26 passes for 194 yards and controlled the tempo of the game to lead the Colonials to its first win since beating Sacred Heart 21-17 on Nov. 10, 2012.
The Colonials (1-1) ground attack ripped the Bears for 190 yards (5.1 avg), led by Howard who finished the ballgame with 76 yards on 16 carries.
For the second consecutive game the Bears hurt themselves with costly penalties. MSU (0-2) was flagged 11 times for 81 yards, while the Colonials finished with seven penalties for 36 yards.

No. 4 Clemson Knocks Off SC State 52-13
CLEMSON, SC—Senior Tyler McDonald recorded his second straight 100-yard game receiving with four catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as fourth-ranked Clemson defeated SC State 52-13 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
South Carolina State drops to 0-2 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 2-0 for a fourth straight season, also a schools first.
Clemson jumped out to an early 17-0 lead off a 32-yard field goal by senior Chandler Catanzaro (6-3,200) at the 11:20 mark in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Tajh Boyd (6-1,225) put the Tigers ahead 10-0 on a 1-yard punch with 3:37 remaining.
The Tiger's defense, showed its big-play ability with a pair of interception return for touchdowns—53 yards by junior defensive back Martin Jenkins (5-9, 185) and 35-yards by senior corner back Darius Robinson (5-10, 175)—for the first time in program history. Boyd then connected on a 3-yard toss to junior Charone Peake (6-2, 205) to put the Tigers ahead, 31-7 with 5:16 remaining before the half.
South Carolina State finally broke its scoreless streak at Clemson with senior quarterback Richard Cue's 63-yard scoring toss to McDonald. McDonald also added a 51-yard TD pass from redshirt sophomore quarterback TeDarrius Wiley.

Opportunistic Scarlet Knights Defeat NSU, 38-0
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Paul James rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns, and the host Scarlet Knights took advantage of outstanding field position throughout the day in a 38-0 win over Norfolk State before 49,111 fans on Saturday afternoon at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights improve to 1-1 on the year, while NSU falls to 0-2 heading into its bye week.
In the third meeting between the schools, Rutgers' first five scoring drives all began in NSU territory thanks largely to Spartan miscues. NSU punter Dalton Fraser's second boot of the day was blocked by Anthony Cioffi, setting Rutgers up at the Spartans' 15. Five plays later, James scored on his first TD of the day on a 1-yard TD run.
On NSU's next possession, Rutgers' Steve Longa recovered a fumble by Rolandan Finch at the Spartans' 19. Three plays later, Gary Nova tossed an 8-yard scoring pass to Ruhann Peele to give the Scarlet Knights a 14-0 lead.
Rutgers continued to get excellent field position after backing NSU up into its own end, taking over after a short punt at the Spartans' 33 on its last possession of the first quarter. James carried on the last four plays of the next drive, capping it off with a 10-yard TD run on the final play of the opening quarter to extend the lead to 21-0.
