BREAKING: UGA To Hire Kirby Smart As Next Head Coach, According To Sources

(Athens, GA) - The University of Georgia will hire Alabama Crimson Tide Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart as it's new head football coach, according to multiple sources who are familiar with the situation.

The university moved quickly to fill the position vacated only days ago when they fired former head coach Mark Richt.

Kirby Smart, a former Georgia player and assistant coach, will return to Athens with much fanfare, according to polling of the fanbase over the last few days.

Smart has not signed a contract yet, but it seems like the school and the coach are on the same page. Smart can't technically sign a contract until after the Tide play the Gators in the SEC Championship game this weekend.

That would make an announcement most likely to be made on Sunday or possibly Monday.

According to sources, the university did at least contact one other coaching candidate, Houston's Tom Herman, but his representative said that it was apparent to him that the job was already Smart's if he wanted it.

Smart, a native of Bainbridge, GA would be coming home to his alma mater, his state and has long been rumored to be next in line for this job.
