Hosea Helps Partners With Delta Sigma Theta For Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution

ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) -- Hosea Helps distributed Thanksgiving food items to hundreds of families at their annual distribution on November 19, 2021. This year, the organization partnered with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

A sea of red flooded a Georgia World Congress Center parking lot at a press conference before the distribution.

"This is our 50th year of feeding the hungry on Thanksgiving," said Hosea Helps CEO Elisabeth Omilami.

This also marked the Delta's 55th National Convention here in Atlanta. They were fired up and ready to meet the long line of cars and thankful families.

"It is something that so many people need, considering everything that's going on," said Nancy Rouse, whose family received food items.

It took an army of volunteers to serve more than 1,500 families during the drive-through event. Delta members said serving the community is their calling.

"Service is what we do. This is the core of who we are," said Lori Lindsey, a member of the sorority's Henry County Alumni Chapter. They're spreading their message to future sorors.

"We want you to get active. We want you to get involved in the community," said Annetta Smith, another Henry County alumni member.

Organizers say they're thankful for the sponsors, family members, and countless other organizations that pitched in, even with a slow supply chain caused by the pandemic.

"The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation came in and said, 'We'll take care of the gap,'" said Omilami.

The Deltas also helped to collect donations. Families received two boxes of food that will last through the week of Thanksgiving. They received produce, water, juices, and large turkeys.

"My husband calls this the season of miracles, and it has truly been for Hosea Helps the season of miracles," Omilami said.

The season of miracles will even continue after Thanksgiving. Hosea Helps plans to serve these same families for Christmas.
