Florida St-Auburn Title Game To Usher Out BCS Era

(NEW YORK) - No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Auburn will play in the final BCS championship game on Jan. 6 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The match made Saturday night when the Seminoles and Tigers won their conference championship games, and Ohio State lost, was made official when the pairings for all the marquee bowl games were announced.

The Seminoles played in the first three BCS title games under former coach Bobby Bowden, winning one, but haven't been back since 2000. Auburn is 1-for-1 in championship games, winning the 2010 title behind Heisman winner Cam Newton.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is the favorite to win this season's Heisman.

Auburn is trying to extend the Southeastern Conference's national title streak to eight.

In a rare meeting between two of the nation's most storied programs, No. 3 Alabama and No. 11 Oklahoma will face off Jan. 2 in the Sugar Bowl at New Orleans.

This will mark only the fifth time Alabama (11-1) and Oklahoma (10-2) have played each other. Oklahoma leads the series 2-1-1 and beat Alabama 20-13 when they last met in 2003.

Ohio State and Clemson are the Orange Bowl's selections to play in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Jan. 3. The Buckeyes' 24-game winning streak and BCS title hopes ended Saturday with a loss to Michigan State in the Big 10 title game. Clemson gets its second Orange Bowl trip in three years, despite not winning its division of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Michigan State and Stanford have been selected for the Rose Bowl's centennial.

The No. 4 Spartans will face the fifth-ranked Cardinal on Jan. 1 in the 100th edition of the Rose Bowl game, pitting two venerable programs in Pasadena's traditional Midwest-West Coast intersectional matchup.

In the Fiesta Bowl, No. 6 Baylor will meet No. 15 Central Florida.
