Family Guide To The Georgia Aquarium

Atlanta is lucky to have one of the largest aquariums in the world right in its downtown. The Georgia Aquarium is home to more than 100,000 animals representing over over 500 species. With both fresh and salt water marine environments, visitors to the Georgia Aquarium are sure to be in awe of the massive size, variety, and quantity of the amazing animals swimming around. Since it is so huge though, it can be overwhelming. Here are five tips for making the most out of a visit to the Georgia Aquarium.

Look For Deals

Tickets to the Georgia Aquarium can be expensive for a family, but there are many deals to be had if one looks hard enough. Check the Georgia Aquarium website for current specials and promotions. There are also discounts for those in the military and any Georgia resident celebrating their birthday gets free admission (on their birthday only) as part of the Georgia birthday offer.

Start With A Plan

Since the Georgia Aquarium is one of the largest in the world, it goes without saying that there is a lot to see. Before showing up, take a few minutes to review their website and have an idea of the must-see items. Getting there early in the day before the crowds build is helpful, too. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are the busiest days, so plan accordingly.

Don't Miss AT&T Dolphin Tales

After a long day walking around, one might be tempted to skip the AT&T Dolphin Tales show, but don't! It is an exceptional show featuring amazing feats by both dolphins and divers. It is entertaining for the whole family as it tells a story that is sure to draw everyone in. Get to the arena at least 30 minutes prior to the show for a good seat. On crowded days, like weekends and holidays, try to get there a full hour in advance to ensure you don't end up in the back row of the gigantic area, however, don't sit too close to the water tanks though as people in the first few rows are likely to get wet.

Take Advantage Of Being Downtown

The Georgia Aquarium is located in the same vicinity as many of Atlanta's top tourist attractions. The World of Coca-Cola, Children's Museum of Atlanta, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, College Football Hall of Fame, CNN, and Centennial Olympic Park are all in the same area. After several hours indoors at the Georgia Aquarium, head outside for a short walk to any of these other area attractions. Make a day out of being in the middle of it all.

Save Time For Aquanuat Adventure: A Discovery Zone

While all of the galleries at the Georgia Aquarium are family-friendly, the newest exhibit, Aquanaut Adventure: A Discovery Zone, is designed with kids in mind. Be sure to save some time to let the kids explore this interactive exhibit while learning at the same time. By completing the tasks in the exhibit, they might even earn an official Aquanaut Adventure Certification. This is a great zone to head to as soon as the kids start getting antsy. The interactive features are sure to hold their attention.
