'Use Of Force' Policy: DeKalb Co. Sheriff Wants Community Input

DECATUR, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) -- DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox held a press conference at the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Headquarters on June 5, 2020, announcing plans to include a Use of Force Policy as part of her ongoing agency review. Maddox said it will involve seeking input from the community.

She made the following statement in a press release:

"When I joined the agency last year as Chief of Administration, I began a review of the agency. In light of recent incidents, I believe it is time for us to involve the community in understanding and helping us improve the ways we interact with citizens in all situations. This could be an opportunity for us to learn from each other."

Maddox also discussed the recent local protests that stemmed from the death of George Floyd and efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 inside the DeKalb County Jail.
