It's that time of year again. Football season concluded on Sunday evening with an exciting finish in Super Bowl XLIX. Now the eyes of sports fans will turn elsewhere with the NBA All-Star break, Spring Training, and Daytona 500 among the events coming up in the next few weeks. The NCAA Tournament is also on the horizon with Selection Sunday only 40 days away. Once again the biggest question in college basketball is if the last remaining unbeaten team can achieve perfection. Kentucky remains the only team in the nation without a loss and has been ranked number one in the polls all season. The Wildcats will need to win 19 more games over the next nine weeks to achieve perfection at 40-0 and become the first unbeaten team since the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers. Many teams have come close to a perfect season in recent years. None were able to match the achievement of Bobby Knight's historic team from four decades ago. Below is a list of the teams that came the closest to perfection before their first loss of the season. Among the teams on the list, only five advanced to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.
2014 Wichita State Shockers 35-0
1991 UNLV Running' Rebels 34-0
1979 Indiana State Sycamores 33-0
2005 Illinois Fighting Illini 29-0
