Chuckery: Ranking The SEC Starting QB's For This Season
This Monday marks the unofficial start to the College Football season with SEC Media Days taking place in Hoover, Alabama. So let's start prepping for the season as I rank the SEC QBs based upon who is projected or most likely to start opening day...
14. Vanderbilt: Johnny McCrary… Even though he started the final 5 games last year, if not for Patton Robinette quitting football he probably wouldn't be the starter.
13. Florida: Will Grier... Should take over for last year's starter Treon Harris which isn't saying much. It may also look worse for Grier with a new offense and a makeshift offensive line.
12. So Carolina: Connor Mitch…Only 6 career pass attempts and no career starts but he does have the Ol' Ball Coach there to mentor him.
11. Ole Miss: Ryan Buchanan…Replaces last year's most experienced SEC QB although NFL HOF'er Jim Kelly's nephew Chad may still take this job.
10. LSU: Brandon Harris... Had the chance last year to outright win the job and couldn't. Only ranked this high because he has started and he couldn't play much worse at times than he did.
9. Alabama: Jacob Coker... This was supposed to be his job last year but Blake Sims beat him out. Good news is if Lane Kiffin does with him what he did for Sims, Coker could be poised to have a monster statistical year.
8. Georgia: Bryce Ramsey... After ending last season as the bowl game starter this seemed a fait accompli but then Greyson Lambert transferred from Virginia raising eyebrows about Ramsey being the starter. Ramsey could be more than just a game manager which with its running attack may be all that UGA really needs.
7. Kentucky: Patrick Towles... Made good strides last year early on but faded late. As a Senior he has the experience but needs to be more consistent.
6. Missouri: Maty Mauk... In what feels like his 17th year in college few players are more erratic in their play than Mauk. Lesser skill position players this year may hurt Mauk's numbers.
5. Arkansas: Brandon Allen... The sleeper QB on the sleeper team in the conference. Doesn't have to do much because of the run first attack but had 20TDs to 5INTs last year and should be better this year.
4. Auburn: Jeremy Johnson... Was terrific in his 1st half start against Arkansas Week 1 last year and now takes over full time. He gives Gus Malzahn an even more dynamic passing threat than Nick Marshall.
3. Texas A&M: Kyle Allen... Kenny Hill got all the hoopla Week 1 but it was Allen who finished the year as the starter and thrived. With a big time WR corp he is poised to put up big numbers.
2. Tennessee: Joshua Dobbs… Could be a sleeper Heisman candidate when all is said and done for the former Alpharetta High star.
1. Miss St: Dak Prescott... Easy pick as he was a Heisman candidate on the #1 team for half of last season. Faded late but has lots of weapons and should be poised to build off of his monster stats from last year.
