Carl Dukes: "UGA will have the nicest Indoor Facility in the SEC."

UGA is finally going to get into the game with an indoor practice facility.

They will be the last school in the SEC to do so.

The UGA athletic board is expected to take further action on the facility, four months after commissioning a design study. The location has been the biggest issue but before the facility will be formally approved, one site has emerged as a possibility: The area just beyond the existing outdoor practice fields, off of Lumpkin Street, leading up to Stegeman Coliseum.

The location off Lumpkin seems a good compromise, keeping the existing facilities but not having it far from the Butts-Mehre building. The price tag has some wondering why so much? Florida recently announced plans for a $15 million indoor practice facility, with funds raised through private gifts and "capital financing," An indoor practice facility for the Georgia football team will cost "in the ballpark of $30 million," at $30 million, it would cost twice as much as the reported price for an indoor practice facility at the University of Florida, currently under construction.

To UGA athletic director Greg McGarity's credit he said "We have one chance to get it right, and we do not want to compromise, this building will be here forever. … We want to get everything we want in this building."

It's taken UGA a long time to get to this point, but if your going to do it you want to make sure its done right.

When completed I believe it will be the best Indoor facility in the SEC.
