Brookhaven's Call To Action: Officials Seeking Public Input On City Centre Master Plan
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) -- It's a call to action to participate and fulfill Brookhaven's vision for a new City Centre. City officials shared why now is the time for taxpayers to give their input.
If you've traveled through the Lenox, Druid Hills and Cumberland areas, chances are you've passed through Brookhaven, a Metro Atlanta city founded nearly 10 years ago. Officials are working on building the future with a City Centre Master Plan. "It's been bringing together that sense of community, establishing who Brookhaven is and who our identity is as a city," said Brookhaven Assistant City Manager Patrice Ruffin.
In 2014, the city adopted an initial Comprehensive Plan suggesting officials draft a master plan that recommends a city hall and a town center feel for Brookhaven. City Hall is currently located in rented space on Peachtree Road. The master plan envisions a new city hall and potential gathering and event spaces. The proposed new location is near the MARTA station at Peachtree Road and Dresden Drive. "The other things have been whether or not the city hall will actually be in that area, what it would potentially look like and then what other development would surround the hall," Ruffin said, also explaining a vital part of the process includes getting community input. "We've had a first round of community engagement meetings."
Residents have attended community listening sessions, looking at traffic and crash data, street lights, transit stops and other details. Brookhaven is now in the second phase of gathering input, and officials are urging everyone to participate. "We'll be doing some pop up events, one in each of our council districts in the next few weeks."
The District 1 pop up took place on October 13. The remainder are taking place as follows:
District 2
- Tuesday, Oct. 19, 6-8 p.m.
- Courtyard at 2700 Apple Valley Road
District 3
- Friday, Oct. 22, 6-8 p.m.
- Location TBD
District 4
- Saturday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

- 3307 Buford Highway
Consultants are working on a market analysis and traffic studies. The city expects to wrap up the input phase by the first quarter of next year.
