Best Outdoor Yoga Classes In Atlanta

As the summer sun sets on Georgia, true Atlantans know that the time to be outside is now here. With cooler temperatures (yet not too cool), now is the perfect time to get in a good workout outside. Sure plenty of people are playing tennis or golf, but for those into yoga, there are some fantastic places to do it outside. Stretch to your heart's content while enjoying the beauty of Atlanta.

Every through the end of September Atlantic Station offers free outdoor yoga classes in Central Park, the green space area in the middle of the shopping center. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., yoga instructors from Exhale Spa lead the class in a variety of yoga poses and core fusion. If there is inclement weather, the class will be held inside the Athleta store, but due to limited space participants must RSVP. If there is inclement weather, call Athleta at (404) 249-0288 to reserve a spot.

Head out to the new shopping center, Avalon, in Alpharetta every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m for free wellness classes in the Plaza through Oct. 1. Yoga will be taught in addition to barre, spinning and adventure runs. Classes are sponsored by some of Avalon's top health and wellness partners including Athleta, Lululemon, Road Runner Sports, Flywheel Sports and Exhale.

This donation-based model of participating in outdoor yoga lets the participants decide how little or how much to pay for each class. Sweet Escapes Yoga instructors typically only work with corporate or private clients, so these outdoor yoga sessions may be the only time many Atlantans can experience them. Check the website for the current month's schedule and location. Classes are currently held at Tanyard Creek Park and are only held through the end of October if the temperature is above 60 degrees and it's not raining.

Wanderlust 108 is a festival rolled into a triathlon of sorts.  On Oct. 4, participants will run a 5K, but also go through guided meditation and an outdoor yoga experience. The emphasis is on community rather than competition. In addition to the yoga and running, there will be food and craft vendors, live bands and a DJ. Tickets can be bought online and cost $50 per person for this all-day event.

For anyone who practices yoga, loves the outdoors and also wants to get in a cardio workout, trail yoga is for you. These free classes, located on the Atlanta Beltline, combines all these great passions. REI's Outdoor School of Yoga & Fitness leads the charge for an easy hike with stops along the trail to do outdoor yoga. Check the website for current class schedules for yoga and a number of other fitness classes.
