Best Animated Film of the Summer

Pixar's Brave was arguably the most anticipated animated film of the summer. And while it was the most visually stimulating animated film of the year so far, its story about a feuding mother and daughter wasn't inventive, a quality that the most successful and memorable Pixar films, such as Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Up, have in common. Other animated films like Ice Age 4 and Madagascar 3 were nothing more than sequels looking for an easy payday, causing these films to become nothing more than blip on the summer movie radar.

This brings us to Paranorman, which was produced by the same studio behind 2009's Coraline. Unlike the summer's other animated films, Paranorman paid homage to the B horror movies of the 1980's. The story of a young boy named Norman who can talk to dead people may not be original, but it's creative, stunning, ironic, and heartfelt. Not to mention the film's supporting characters, such as Norman's chubby friend and airhead sister provide a lot of laughs.

If you're looking for a genuinely interested animated film, look no further than Paranorman.
