Atlanta Spring Concert Preview

Atlanta is a great concert city and is known for some amazing places to see the concerts. With venues like Chastain, Lakewood and Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre, there is a great venue in every part of the metro area. Throw in indoor venues like Philips Arena, the Cobb Energy Center and Gwinnett Arena; no act is too big or too small to play Atlanta. Each year, the big acts start hitting town in the spring.  Here are some spring concerts you don't want to miss in 2012.

The legend that is Van Halen is back on tour in 2012 and David Lee Roth is leading the way.  Expect to hear some new songs along with all the classic rock songs that made Van Halen famous. From "Jump" to "Panama" and "Dance the Night Away," these are timeless hits you could listen to over and over again. Philips Arena is a great place for a rock concert as the sound doesn't get lost in the corners of the arena.

It's a theater, it's a nightclub, yes it's Variety Playhouse. A great small concert venue, Variety Playhouse is known for their acoustics and fans being close to the action on stage. Greg Lake, one of the founding members of Emerson, Lake and Palmer will be at Variety Playhouse this spring and expect to hear hits from ELP, King Crimson and Lake's other side projects.  Should be a fun night, with one of the biggest names in music playing his heart out in Atlanta.

Since the 1970s, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers has been bringing great rock and roll music to the masses. This April date at Verizon Wireless is special for a few reasons. Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre boasts plenty of free parking that are an easy walk or a short shuttle ride from the venue. There are no bad seats at Verizon for any concert and the sound is usually perfect. This is a concert that should not be missed as who knows when Tom Petty will be back in the Atlanta area again!

Aaron's Amphitheater at Lakewood has played host to the biggest names in country music over the years. It's an outdoor venue that rocks all year long. This May, two of the biggest names in country music come to play their new songs and their hits. Two Georgia boys, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan come to town and this show is sure to sell out. Aldean was male artist of the year in 2011 and his current album "My Kinda Party" is fantastic.

The weather should be perfect, so pack a picnic basket with some dinner and wine and enjoy a man who has sold more than 50 million albums.
