What do you get when you have a hot guy and a funny guy working together in a film? A movie filled with laughs and eye candy. Genius. I couldn't ask for more. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill come together for an unlikely pairing in the reboot of the eighties television series 21 Jump Street.
Lots of laughs are involved as Tatum and Hill work together as cops that have a tendency to screw things up. In high school, Jenko (Tatum) was the dumb but popular and studly (DUH!) jock and Schmidt (Hill) was the nerdy, loser, Eminem wannabe. As adults, they have learned to work with one another to balance out their shortcomings. Together the two make a team that must go undercover as high school students to bust a drug ring.
Ironically, this high school's social hierarchy system is different than what they are used to from their past. Tatum becomes the loser outcast and Hill is the "cool" one. Obviously those high schoolers were on drugs if they thought Channing Tatum wasn't cool. I think that's what they call the suspension of disbelief. They both react differently to the stereotypical roles they obtain, almost forgetting the roles only relate to their undercover assignment.
And yes, before you ask…one of the officers does fall for an underage girl. I'll let you guess which man is the weak (and inappropriate) one.
The funniest scene in the film is when the two cops are forced to take the drugs while undercover to prove that they aren't in fact cops. It is hilarious as the audience is taken through the different phases of the drug and how each character reacts to it.
The movie has a lot of great one-liners to keep the audience laughing. The script also pokes a lot of fun at the fact that it is a remake. I'm glad they can own up to it. Judging by the audience's reaction I would say it's a movie both girls and guys alike would enjoy.
Also, lucky for us, original 21 Jump Street boy Johnny Depp makes an appearance in this film. See if you can spot him! James Franco's little brother plays a big role in the film. Let's see if he can fill his brother's footsteps.
