2017 SXSW Film Festival

The SXSW Conference and Festivals in Austin, TX is almost upon us.  It's the 31st year and the 24th year for the Film and interactive parts of the festival. Not to be outdone it's the 10th for the Comedy part of this nine day event. SXSW takes place March 10 - 19th.

Headlining the conference part of SXSW 2017 is Vice President Joe Biden where he will outline his plans for a Biden cancer initiative and call on attendees at SXSW to join him in taking on the disease.  Keynotes Yasmin Green of Jigsaw and country music legend Garth Brooks are just some of the speakers this year, along with Featured Speakers Gabourey Sidibe, Nick Offerman, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Chris Milk, and Dr. Vivek Murthy.

The Interactive Festival highlights the best new talent in the field. Included are a variety of compelling networking experiences that complement the many learning opportunities at SXSW.

Music is the backbone of SXSW and the Opening night party is sure to please just about everyone. Sure to please just about any music lover, the party has dance-punk staple !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Chance The Rapper collaborator and powerhouse Noname, BBC Radio1 DJ Huw Stephens, 4AD glam-pop outfit The Lemon Twigs, Montreal techno-futurist Marie Davidson and Ennio Morricone-esque big band Tredici Bacci.

The Comedy Festival is filled with an incredible lineup including Bob Odenkirk, Mike Lawrence, Liza Treyger, Doug Benson, Michael Ian Black, Wanda Sykes, Wyatt Cenac, and more.

My favorite, of course, is the SXSW Film Festival. Featuring provocative documentaries, comedies, and genre standouts, the SXSW Film Festival takes place over nine days, seven venues, and on thirteen screens. Interactive and Music registrants can take advantage of expanded access to the festival with secondary access to most screenings.
