Rep. Rogers: Huawei is a "serious threat"

Congressmen Mike Rogers and Dutch Ruppersberger tell Steve Kroft they are concerned that telecom giant Huawei has ties to the Chinese government.

by rfee377 October 7, 2012 8:39 PM EDT: I was an American technologist in the cellular business for nearly 3 decades. To look for an answer to Steve Kroft's question "How did this happen?" I suggest two paths: 1) Start listing vendors who have tried to sell products to China only to come back on a return visit and see their product reverse engineered and duplicated with no respect for intellectual property rights. 2) remember the quote attributed to Lenin, "A capitalist will sell you the rope to hang himself with." The profit motive will give a company's management the incentive to sell whatever knowledge its employees have worked to discover and design. This happens every time manufacturing and now research are moved offshore. If a nation wants to have longer-term strategic thinking then the government has to be involved - private industry and its high-level decision-makers do not consider that their responsibility in my opinion.; Reply to this comment
