- Mitt Romney said that captital gains should not be taxed because they are already taxed at corporate level. But isn't that wrong. Dividends are based on corporate profits which are taxed at corporate level so dividends are essentially double taxed. But capital gains are based solely on profits from selling assets (usually stocks, but also real estate etc.) at a higher value than originally paid. Can you clarify this?
