This is absolutely the truth. There is a book "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" wrtitten by Weston A. Price, DDS who in 1920-1930 traveled the world and studied diets of isolated groups of people(back then there still existed places were the "white man's" diet did not reach) and concluded that the diet of the "civilized" people, rich in refined sugars and flour is the casue of cavities, disease and premature death. He studied the Innuit, Masai, Swiss ... I red also a lot of good articles on weston a price foundation website.

Very interesting segment. Makes me really rethink my diet. I eat healthly but am a sucker for sweets.

I will attempt to lower my weight and exercise more, along with eating a diet low in sugar, and carbs.
I had done this before, but became complacient and gained it all back plus a few more for added measure.
I had lost 100 pounds in a year.
I was a 325 lb'er, went to 225, but simply gave in slowly to my temptations, but I didn't know then what I know now.
It's never too late to choose health.

And I have just been reading Wheatbelly, which wants to vilify modern wheat hybrids, saying they are even worse than sugar for the body. Same effects, with the small, dense LDLs and getting past the blood-brain barrier and clinging to the morphine receptors. I am thinking that it is better to eat a cheese omelet, you know, two eggs, onions and cheese. I was doing some work for a friend over a 6 month period, and he made me lunch every day, often eggs, and maybe one slice of toast, and I lost weight, down about 20 pounds, and I felt better.

I had an obese friend she would eat a whole Degerino pizza and a whole bag of enchiladas smothered in cheese and tator tots in one go. People are fat because they're lazy and never exercise.. they run inside and sit in the air conditioning all year round and their body gets used to this cold and just keeps heaping on more and more pounds instead of dealing with a bit of uncomfortable heat these fat people crank the air up more and more never giving their body a chance to lose any weight. This chick I knew got the surgery and still ate like a garbage disposal gone wild. Still never exercised and still cranked up the air conditioning in the middle of winter time while there was snow on the ground.

Dr. Lustig looks like a fatty. Maybe he's just angry that he eats too much sugar and doesn't realize you don't have to be fat like him to eat sugar in moderation?

The difference between the two kinds of sugar is a relatively minor issue (despite the ill-informed hype on this subject coming from many sources). But even if I accept that the difference is significant, the detrimental impact of ANY form of sugar is a much more serious issue, hence I believe the CBS story has appropriate balance. My bottom line: eat an orange instead of drinking orange juice!
