This is heartbreaking! It's hard to believe a son could take the lives of the very two whom gave him life. I can't get my head around this nightmare! I do believe he's guilty. I wonder what his mother and father were thinking when their only son was killing them. Lord help us.

What an horrible person was this guy!!!!!!!! Seriously did he think police wouldn't catch him??? In the moment he left his home he was lost. He wasn't so intelligent as he thought he was. Sometimes you cannot avoid to think what kind of people is walking in the streets.

Wow - I guess this freak is sorry he missed the almost 9K in his fathers pants - guess he was suffering from 'tunnel vision' - what a scary guy - it makes one wonder who he owed $ too - that he would kill his parents and loose everyone - but then gambling is an addiction - and he was obviously 'in' deep - how sad all around - and some of the ladies he was involved with I mean really? you don't clue in there is something wrong with a guy who baracades himself in a hotel room? what a looney tune - no wonder he had the delusion of thinking himself smarter than most -

ugh! The sister of the family seemed like a cold hearted witch, even with telling of her parents death. She made me sick. Couldn't finish this..

This was good police work. I was hoping the man had not killed his parents.

Hey, CBS, why won't you allow readers to comment on "A Killer Defense" (July 26, 2011)? Social engineering?

No justification for the murders. None.

However...

Ernie (the son) is clearly the genetic black sheep of the family. Even his wife, Robin, seems more like a member of the family than Ernie.

I'm guessing that Ernie's parents rode him too much to become a success like his father. His mother probably maligned Ernie the most, so she received the most blows to the head.

Parents need to accept their kids as is. If Ernie wasn't endowed with the abilities to rise to his father's level, then his parents should have allowed him to become his own person.

The family is devout Mormon? In that case, they should've known the story of the "Prodigal Son". Don't call your kid a "professional nosepicker". Instead, let him find his own path. After your kid recognizes the errors of his way, then you welcome him home and kill the fatted calf for a celebration.
